Some Jamaican Charities Are Doing A Great Job

By Gary Green

One of the best human qualities is compassion. Blessed are the merciful for they shall be shown mercy. Being able to console and help the suffering people is what makes someone to be human. Charity work is about mercy and compassion. It is not about collecting monies and using such monies to pay people fat salaries. Of course, there are the dubious charity organizations and then there are the Jamaican charities that are doing great works. Actually, the selected few reputable charities are changing Jamaica for the better. They are solving everyday problems and leaving people with smiles.

Poverty is a scar in the conscience of Jamaica and the world in general. It is the greatest irony that the world has an abundance of gold and silver yet there are people who are surviving on less than a dollar a day. Some developing nations even have mineral wealth but more than half of the population is living in poverty.

Poverty has solutions and some charity organizations are already implementing such solutions in Jamaica. First, there is the need to deal with the poverty mindset. Sometimes, poverty is a mindset thing. Secondly, people need to be financial empowered. There are institutions that are providing micro-finance loans to underprivileged individuals in the third world. With a loan, one can start a thriving business.

Poverty is not the only problem. Some places do not have access to water. One of the Millennium Development Goals is that everyone on planet earth should have access to clean water. Unfortunately, that is not the case. There are people who have to drink dirty water. One can find a Jamaican charity concerned with improving water supply.

Water is a basic human need. Water is life. It is needed by humans and animals. It is impossible to live for more than one week without water. People also need food so that to survive. In some countries, droughts are killing millions of people and children are dying of malnutrition. The major cause of drought is climate change.

Eliminating hunger is the main goal of some charities. The situation in third world nations is very dire. There are many malnourished children in Africa, South America, and Jamaica. The good news is that there is hope. Actually, there is light at the end of the tunnel. One just has to open his eye to be able to see the light.

Most of the problems of developing countries can be solved if people in those countries get a high quality education. In some countries, the level of illiteracy is very high. It is disheartening that in the modern day world, there are still people who cannot read and write. Some non-governmental organizations are building schools and supplying books.

It is good to help others. It is better to give than to receive. The hand that gives will be blessed. Charity work is one of the best things that an individual can do. One should not ignore all the pain and suffering, all over the world. A person can contribute to a charity organization that has a great reputation.
