Standford University 101

By Philip James

Stanford is recognized to be one of the most renowned universities in the United States as well as the world. I could very well supply you the Wikipedia version right here, but I reckoned it would turn out to be more suitable to help show you the point of view of a student rather than from a historical point of view.

The environment of the university is considerably impressive and therefore, top notch among those located on the west area. The architecture shows a more exclusive and contemporary vibe to it compared to other universities of the same caliber, but I love the mission style structural design. All of the properties within the campus are certainly renowned, and Palm Drive is absolutely a sight to itself.

After the University of Moscow, Stanford is the 2nd biggest campus in the world. There are a bunch of leisure activities that can be done there. There you find a post office, a gas station, gold course, a multitude of restaurants and eateries, and a huge university shop. Even those in need of their wheatgrass fix can head straight to the nearest Jamba Juice shop.

If you happen to have a bike lying around, get yourself peddling! I really enjoy biking around the level and smooth it is. However, if you prefer a slower method of going around, you can go for a walk. Strolling around is very refreshing and calming for me, especially if I have a good book tucked under my arm. Just look of for the bikers although I have yet to encounter getting stuck by one.

Academically, Stanford is a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. I had great professors, mentors and I loved my educational experience. Deep within the halls this place is amazing, new startups that will change the world are forming and cutting edge research that will save many lives is being performed. Small class sizes. It's about 1:6 ratio. Study abroad opportunities at Stanford owned international campuses. Stanford has internationally famous professors.

Stanford receives over 34,000 applicants per year for about 1500 freshman admits. 92% of the applicants were in the top 10% of their High Schools graduating classes. The only other way in is if mom or dad buys Stanford a new building. Many students are science or engineering majors. However, 3500 students are undeclared majors. No need to rush declaring a major. Campus is highly manicured, traditional and space age architecture. 98% of students live on campus. Stanford has a campus wide free bus system. Many students get around by bicycle.

Stanford students happen to be imaginative, optimistic and focused on their goals. It invited the best of the best. The expense of studying there is $56,000 for one year including tuition and residence fees. There are no additional fees for other programs offered like the study abroad program. The university also offers work programs to lessen the student's expenses. Majority of the students benefit from monetary aid, scholarship grants and loans.

I spent four formative years in Stanford and while I have a deep affection for this campus. Stanford is a school that prepares you for a life that gets better and richer with every year. Being a fan of Social Distortion and an alumni of Stanford, you can say I've lived a "charmed life".
