Promotional merchandise, items, products, gifts and swag are all used to refer to pieces or merchandise that are used as part of communication and marketing programs. Typically business promotional product is branded. There are an assortment of products that may be employed and they are often given to promote a company, brand, corporate image or event.

Most promotional products are used to promote. For this reason, they usually include the name of an event or company, or a logo or slogan. Many businesses choose items that are used universally and often on a daily basis. An example of this would be coffee mugs. A lot of people drink from mugs on a regular basis and would therefore be constantly reminded of what is being promoted.

There are several ways people can get a hold of these products. They might be sold at the store of a company or events. Sometimes they are given away at not cost. This is most common at conferences, trade shows and other gatherings as part of guerrilla marketing strategies. Many companies give items out as part of giveaways, exhibitions and new product launches.

It is believed that the first of these products that were given away centuries ago in an election. It was during the 1700s and George Washington was running for president. The product being given away for promotional purposes was commemorative buttons. The later half of the nineteenth century was when an industry was developed solely for the manufacture and distribution of such promo products. Companies all across the world utilize this type of merchandise nowadays.

Often distributors provide customizable products in bulk. Usually these are inexpensive and small in size. Still, there are high quality products available that can be used for a similar purpose. An example of these would be the items given to celebrities, and other public figures, at major events. These may be colognes or perfumes, electronics or other valuable products. The business hopes that these public figures will be seen using the products or otherwise endorse them.

Generally, the main goal of any type of promo is brand awareness. These might also be helpful at building traffic at trade shows and other events, dealer and distributor programs, getting new clients, employee serve awards, non-profit organizations, incentive programs, marketing research, safety education and more. As far as non-commercial groups go, such as schools and charities, the products are helpful for raising money or awareness for a specific purpose.

These items that are used will vary based on the objective, company, target audience and other such factors. There are even individuals who collect these promotional items as a hobby. Some products may not be made for daily use, but the ones frequently used are beneficial because they serve as a constant reminder.

The business promotional product is a useful tool when it comes to marketing and creating brand awareness. There are numerous items that can be used for this purpose, most of which are branded with the logo, name, symbol or some other marker of what is being promoted. Numerous distributors sell bulk quantities at affordable prices. Such products are available through many different avenues.
