By George Dodson

Somewhere, perhaps in a movie, you've seen a limousine and a chauffeur, and noticed the lifestyle surrounding that whole scene. You've decided you want to become a chauffeur. Therefore, what steps should you take to become a successful chauffeur?

The first thing you want to understand the chauffeur is just not a driver. They are also equipped with the knowledge about the place or location where they are employed. They think ahead of their clients and plan for their needs. Practically, you can tell that they are also tour guides for a specific city since they know almost all ins and outs of it.

Having to know all the ins and outs of the city is the most basic thing that you need to know if you want to become a successful chauffeur. You become an expert on how to get from point A to point B. Being able to formulate a path is something you can do easily. In order to do so, you will need to go out and check the places yourself. Reading a map should be something that you can do easily. Also, learn how to read and use a GPS.

Learn what makes a certain city famous or unique. What are the landmarks? What places would you recommend to visit. Understand what the certain place has to offer and why many take time to visit the place. What's the population of your city? What are some of the best restaurants? You should have a good list of recommendations. The weather is also something that you should keep track of. Know what happens on a specific date. Listen to news forecasts. Finally one of the best hotels, and the stores nearby.

Along with the decent occupation, you will also need to have a decent uniform or outfit for the job. Your dress or uniform will let other people know that you are a professional and you know what you are doing and you deserve respect.

Most companies have a dress standard for the chauffeur's. The popular style of uniform for chauffeurs today would include a tie, black suit with white shirt and black shoes. You want to make a fantastic first impression, and let the client know that you're serious, and you know what you're doing.

Try to notice the smallest things at work. Always maintain proper hygiene. Keep a coat hanger with you so you can hang up your coat when you need to. Smoking should also be considered since there are those clients that hate smokers. Smoking is dangerous to the health not only to you but also to your clients.

You shouldn't be talking unless you are required to. Your job is to respond to your client. As Stephen Covey used to say "seek to understand, then be understood".? By spending a good amount of time, you will then be able to know when it is time to chat with your client and when not to.

Be prepared for almost anything. Many limousine companies today build their vehicle with a lot of features that clients can simply take hold of. There are those installed with entertainment showcases, sewing kits, mini bars and many more other features designed specially for clients. Aim to provide the best service as possible.

Of course, every professional should have his or her own tool for his or her job. Currently, there are a few apps on phones that you can simply use in your line of work. That includes a good calendar, a good map, sports schedules, and weather information.

Pay attention to all this if you're thinking about becoming a chauffeur.
