Tips To Be A Excellent Tree Photographer

By George Dodson

In autumn trees look gorgeous. But it is impossible to wait for the period to take a photograph of the tree.

Your camera

Various types of lenses from wide-angle to shorter telephotos are available now. You can use any of them. If you want, you can also use compacted camera. Please take a strong camera stand as you may get insufficient light in forest. It is better to take a large bag with numerous compartments for a long journey. It will ensure enough space to take your essential things.

Woods are your friends

You can get trees easily near by us like our garden, beside the roads etc. If you want an extraordinary shot you should go for woods or local garden rather than your house tree. Though woods are good specimen for photography but you can not use tripod in all gardens or site. So at first you have to know about the place before carrying the tripod. For working on a group of trees it is convenient to take the overall scene where as you can crop the image when you need an ulterior look.

You should go at proper time

As highly contrasting light is not good for photography you should choice late morning or afternoon for tree photography. A gloomy day is never suitable for photography. But there has an exception for some close up photography.

Add texture and select the proper pattern

If you want to work with a single tree I suggest you to go as close as possible. You should focus the trunk and at the same tilt up to get a view with some texture.

Go for man-made things

Keep some artificially made objects like statues, benches etc in your coverage. But considering the color is very important.

Go to leaves

You should go for leaf and canopy area when the sky remains apparent and blue. The contrasting ability between blue and green is pretty good. So, you can go for more details in leaves. Be conscious to avoid bug chewed leaves. A 100 mm micro lenses are more convenient for extra zooming but when you deserve more detailed shots, you should use a coupling ring and an extension tube on two lenses.

If you use thicker leaves for photography, they will not shine and if you use leaves of the same structure your works look duplicative.
