Understanding What Constitutes A Quality Commercial Fire System

By Mark Mahaffey

When you think of fire safety, you may think first of home fire safety. However, workplace safety is also very important. These days, it is not uncommon for people to spend nearly as much of their time at work as they do at home! Therefore, fire safety at work is very important.

Putting together your commercial security plan is important, and there are a few components that you should consider as you do this. One consideration is your fire escape route. Does everyone in your building know what this route is? If they do not, you should have some training sessions on it. Also, make sure that your building contains at least 2 escape doors.

The fire doors must also be kept clear. If there is a fire and the doors are blocked with things like trash bags, empty containers and extra office equipment, people will be hindered from escaping the fire. Make it a rule that anytime there are workers in side your office, the fire doors are clear and unblocked.

Fire extinguishers are another important part of a quality fire safety plan for businesses. These should be high quality extinguishers, purchased from a reputable company. You should also have training sessions, so that everyone knows how to actually operate the fire extinguishers in case of an emergency. Perform frequent maintenance checks on them to make sure they work correctly.

Automatic sprinkler systems are also a good idea if you are improving workplace fire safety. These can turn on in the event of a fire and can help contain the fire until the fire department arrives. They can be wired into your fire system so they turn on automatically when a fire breaks out.

Fire and heat detectors are also a critical part of your commercial fire system. Just make sure that you check them frequently to make sure the wiring is intact. It is also important to keep fresh batteries in them.
