Tips Offered In Blogs On Parenting

By Kevin Ross

Many psychiatrists consider the relationship between parents and children as the most complicated of all types of relationships. This is because it is faced with many challenges that are often ignored and left unsolved thus they tend to grow and lead to long term effects. Some parents have moved to checking out Blogs on Parenting for advice. Here are some other tips.

Communication is the key factor in a relationship. Between parents and children, it is even more important. The unequal balance in status between the parent and child further affects communication thus affecting the relationship. Later on in this article, the factors in communication that are often violated and affect parent child relationships are explained.

When children do a mistake, the first reaction of the parent is often to talk harshly to the child or punish them immediately. Punishing them is allowed however, showing your anger and aggression through a violent reaction is advised against. This is because the child will feel threatened and will thus with time withdraw and become less communicative with the parent.

Instead of being harsh and acting in anger, parents should instead opt for the use of the calm in control approach. This approach involves having the parent speak to the child in a neutral calm tone to tell them that they have done wrong and you are displeased with them. Often, the child will feel guilty that they have disappointed their parents and will thus opt to be better in future.

It is also important to note that children also respond to praises just like adults. Praising the child for the little achievements they have made helps build their self-appreciation. Furthermore, when the child receives praises they are encouraged to keep on doing the good they did to please their parents thus resulting in a long term effect.

Often, children are trying to grab the attention of their parents who are most times doing something else. It is true that parents cannot pay 24/7 attention to their kids, but they need to note when their kids really need the attention. Regularly ignoring a child will lead to self-esteem issue with the child which is long term as the child will become withdrawn. Parents also need to understand them.

Children tend to want to help out. They will thus voice out opinion or suggestions to solving a problem. Parents should not automatically reject or ignore their suggestion. Instead they should that they appreciate the help from the child and also assess their solution to further show their appreciation. This tactic can also be applied when the child is to be punished for a mistake.

Parents should be careful in the approach that they use to raise their kids. This is because their approach will be applied by their children to raise their own kids. The long term effects of the rearing tactics used thus can either be positive or negative depending on the parent. To ensure parents use the appropriate rearing tactics they can get suggestions online, read books or advice from experts.
