How Jamaican Charities Are Helping Suffering People

By Kenneth Morgan

The spirit of charity is a good spirit. It is always great to extend the hand of help to those who are suffering. Not everyone in the world is blessed with abundance. Some people cannot afford the bare basics. Some individuals have to live for weeks without eating anything. There are also those who totally do not have access to clean and hygienic water. It is impossible for a human being to live without water. There are Jamaicans who are suffering. Luckily, Jamaican charities are offering much needed assistance.

Poverty eradication is the primary focus of most charity organizations. Poverty is a very bad thing. It makes a person to suffer and to lose his self esteem. Not having money to cater for the basics of life is not something desirable. In most cases, all that is needed is financial empowerment. As a matter of fact, most poor people are not financially empowered.

Poverty is a major problem in the world. Even in developed countries like the United States, there are still people who are living in poverty. Poverty means living on less than a dollar a day. With many countries facing inflation, one dollar can accomplish very little. It is hard for a dollar to feed even one person for a day. Thus, for it to feed a family is impossible.

A good percentage of Jamaicans live below the poverty line. That means surviving on less than two dollars a day. There are families that have to survive on only one dollar. In most developing countries, it is hard to find a job even if one has the qualifications. Without a job, one will not have an income and that will cause poverty.

Some Jamaicans cannot access education. That is because of poverty, which makes it impossible to pay school fees. There are places that do not have schools. Some schools are in a very bad condition. In some scenarios, children have to learn in the open. Education is a basic right of a child. An educated society will easily progress.

There are charities that normally build schools. Jamaica just like many other developing countries needs more schools. Educating a child is one of the best things that an individual can do. When a child is educated, he can easily prosper in life. That is because knowledge is power. A charity can also supply books, computers and sports equipment to a school.

A healthy nation is a prosperous nation. The citizens of a country should be as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, in Jamaica, many people are dying of preventable diseases. There is a shortage of medical practitioners. There are charity organizations that are developing the health sector of Jamaica. Some doctors from developed countries usually visit developing countries and carry out charity work.

The hand that gives is the hand that receives. It is better to give than to receive. Those who have been blessed with plenty should consider those who are suffering and help them. One of the ways of helping is by contributing money to a reputable charity. Before making any contribution, there is the need to establish the reputation of an organization.
