Marine engineering is a very critical course that requires one not only to learn but have passion in this field to master it. Therefore, a student at a tender age who intends to pursue a marine engineering course must build their interest from a very young age. One of the crucial and initial step is to nature and build interest towards the profession. This involves taking up free time to learn more about marine vessels trying to understand how they work. The student should then look for the best internship position in a suitable company. This is the third phase which should be taken very seriously by the student. This career path requires one to build their skills not only in knowledge and theory but also in experience and practical lessons. This builds confidence in the students as they continue with the internship.

The fourth and also very important step for one to become a professional is to pass the final test of fundamentals of engineering. This is the test that determines whether the student will receive a license or not. Therefore, they must be adequately prepared to face this test if they are to stand any chance of becoming a certified and accredited naval engineer who is capable.

The fifth and also important phase is to enroll in an entry-level position in a certified organization or company. It is a requirement that one cannot be certified or licensed without having experience in the field for a minimum of four years. The sixth phase is when the individual is allowed to sit for the test that determines whether they will be licensed and certified. This is usually the final test between them and their license to operate in the field. Passing this test makes them fully-fledged marine architects who can take up any positions in the field and handle them perfectly as they have the skills.

Last but not least, the final step is to look for a niche or opportunity to place themselves as they continue to grow in the market. This is a crucial aspect that requires one to be very sober when thinking about it. During this stage the engineer is still new to the career thus, requires learning more.
