Get Hired Faster With A LinkedIn Networking Strategy

By Gregory White

Searching for a job has changed a lot in the past couple of decades. Instead of going through the routine of calling around and creating a nice resume package, there are many job search marketing tools that can be used in various mediums. While there are many ways to execute a job search strategy, having a LinkedIn networking strategy covers many bases.

Like they say, it is not necessarily what a person knows but who they know, or are acquainted with in their industry. This can make a difference in getting leads or finding an opportunity in the least expected place. Creating a profile that is appealing and conversation with others engaging, can lead to many great things.

Setting up a profile is the most important step of all. While some users may intentionally omit a photo or other information, adding everything is essential upon setting up. If one were to notice, more online outsourcing companies are asking to see a LinkedIn profile and using the information provided to see if a candidate is a match.

Having basic job information, such as duties is necessary to create relevant tags that are used to connect to groups and companies through a feed. If a person has earned online certifications or other credentials, they need to add the URL to their profile. As more people are taking advantage of distance learning, this is much faster than verifying transcripts through a traditional learning institution.

Those who consider themselves knowledgeable may want to link articles they have written. Some with extensive experience may have written a whitepaper or published a book. This is also of interest to people who are in a recruiting position. Even if a person has done a guest blog post on a reputable site, this can make a good impression also.

Although the Jobs tab is another place to view opportunities and create customized searches, it also may help to join a group or two. If there are a lot of options, it may be best to go with those that are the most active instead of the number of members. Recent conversation can give someone the heads up about a particular industry.

Like any other forum, it helps to keep conversation positive and contribute content that may be of interest to other group members. This may be in the form of articles, blog posts, and other online sources. If a person chooses to post content that they wrote, they should be prepared to handle feedback constructively. It also helps to not engage in any slander of a company or entity, even if the information has been proven true.

Other places to find work are in the Marketplace and Premium upgrades allow users to increase their engagement. An upgrade also entitles users to take advantage of online education and preparing to receive a nationally recognized certification. This can be beneficial to those who have been out of work for a while.
