The Basics of Email Marketing You Should Always Keep in Mind

You need a list and you know it. It might be something you already have. You may have had some success with it as well. You may have seen a drop in that success, though. Try not to panic! Very few people are willing to admit that success with email marketing can go up or down. Some projects and products do better than others. Your first reaction, when sales are not so hot, might be to try out as many shiny, new techniques as you can because you've been "assured" you'll make a fortune. Resist this temptation! The best approach is to strip it down to basics when sales are slowing down and we'll talk about a few of those right here in this article.

It is a technique by which every successful Internet Marketer swears. Take a moment and read through an IM forum and you'll find a ton of posts on email marketing and how important it is. Generally, these posts discuss the latest, flashiest, top secret strategy to earn money. You're going to need to go back to the essentials if you really want to implement this strategy effectively to make money.

The only email you'll get when people sign up is the one they are comfortable giving you. A lot of people will opt-in to an email list with a special email that has been made for that reason alone. To get them to subscribe to your list again with their real email, you are going to have to seriously impress them with the quality of the content you are sending them. It can be annoying because your list server really can't tell which address is a primary one and which isn't, even if you'd love to have a list that is composed mainly of principle addresses.

This is because the choice of who gets to see which email is up to you. Testing might not seem essential but it's the only way for you to figure out which emails and tactics are generating the best response. You can even set up a special list just for people who want to be "test subjects" for the messages that you want to send out to your list. People love sharing their opinion so why shouldn't you benefit?

It's also a good way to avoid your list being sold or hacked. No matter where you go, customer service is critical, and that's why any list service that wants your money and your business has to be amazing in that department. Walk away if they aren't giving you what you should get.

Don't get sucked in by shiny tactics or form over substance. When you built the foundation you used certain strategies that were successful and now you should be doing the same. The basics will never steer you wrong.
