Pinterest Referral Traffic Increases By 67% In The E-Commerce World

By Hanif Imran

Have you ever heard of Pinterest? It is one of the fastest growing companies on the Internet today. It is a platform that allows people to upload their favorite pictures, and share them, across the web. If other people like what you have pinned on your Pinterest page, they will share it with other people.

Facebook generates a lot of revenue from their advertising platform. However, Pinterest seems to do a much better job of converting its advertising into buyers. Pinterest is the third most popular social media site in the world, behind Facebook and Twitter. Shopify.com studied and analyzed data from over twenty five thousand Shopify online stores and found some very interesting statistics. Compared to Twitter traffic, Pinterest referral traffic is 10% more likely to buy something.

But not only are Pinterest users 10% more likely to buy, their average user purchase is $80 which is double the average purchase from Facebook referral traffic! Think about it. 10% more of the Pinterest traffic buys over Twitter and the average purchase size is DOUBLE that of Facebook users. That's impressive.

If you are not on Pinterest yet you need to get over there and set up an account as soon as possible. You will want to make sure you start sharing and getting your site out there. It will be one of the best things you can do for your business.

If you have an e-commerce business, you should seriously consider looking at Pinterest as a method by which you can generate additional traffic and sales for the products or services that you have that fit these types of products and demographics.

Whether you are looking at the information provided by Google analytics, or one of the many other data analyzing services on the web, you will quickly see how valuable pictures are in regard to products that are sold by e-commerce sites. Almost 50% of the images that were shared that led to this large spike in e-commerce sales was sharing different types of clothing from a number of different brands. Home-improvement images were also shared, specifically those related to home decor. The point is that pictures, just like videos, are very easy to share if you have the proper platform to do so. This is why Pinterest was so successful at boosting e-commerce sales, and this same technology can help you and your business as well.
