Which Is The Best Resume Template?

By Barbara Gibson

A resume goes ahead of you whenever you are applying for a job. It will give the first impression that will either entice the recruiter or cause your application to be put through a shredder. A good resume template is therefore crucial in boosting your chances of securing a job. Considering that there are thousands of templates either on the internet or from other sources, how do you identify the best?

It is the features that differentiate the good from the terrible resumes. A good format should make it easier to located details that are important for your application. Recruiters have to handle thousands of applications and will therefore only pick the ones that standout. Pick a format that makes it easier to find information that demonstrates your suitability like experience, skills and other details that highlight your suitability.

Professionally prepared templates are the most reliable. They present a systematic and clear format. Important sections like personal details, education and work experience are clearly defined. With such clarity, your application will standout and be easier to pick as applicants are short listed. Concealing details in numerous words and categories will compromise your chances of getting the job.

While details are important in resumes, limit them to the most essential. For instance, provide a precise and official name. Only include titles that are relevant to the job you are currently applying for. Mr. And Mrs. Are general titles that may be omitted without affecting the strength of any application. The important titles that are important to include are Dr. Or Prof, and such titles that denote a higher level of qualification or achievement.

Resumes are useful in highlighting experience, knowledge and skills. The tone and language used should be official with present tense being used. Punctuation should be kept at basic with cautious use of abbreviations. Only abbreviate where necessary and for common names like UN, USA, UK, etc. For the experiences and achievements included, ensure that they are relevant to applied position.

Many people will include a section on additional information in their resumes. While this is important and makes you stand out, ensure that it is absolutely necessary. Use numbers or bullets to list your work experience ensuring that the most recent position appears first. The duration you served in each of these positions should also be included. Each position comes with responsibilities. They should be included to demonstrate the actual experience gathered.

The best format for a resume is highly dependent on the position you are applying for. An example is entry level jobs where recruiters look for basic skills, ability to acquire new ones and the enthusiasm to work. Middle level jobs are mainly management with recruiters looking for industry understanding and ability to manage teams. Top level managers are sourced across industries because recruiters require leadership and the ability to manage a large firm or idea.

The specifics of the job you are applying for will guide you on the template to use. Recruiters also demand certain details that alter the format of your resume. What is important is to ensure that the template you select helps you to make the strongest case with your application standing out among the rest.
