What Are The Common Types Of Rocks

By Walter Murphy

Not everyone are aware of how generally important rocks are. Naturally speaking, this holds the ground way effectively to prevent erosions and other possible calamity caused by moving of the ground. However, after knowing that these things may also be used in creating several stuff, industries began collecting these resources to make their business grow. They normally do that by using a rock ripper.

However, not all rocks you see is applicable for this kind of needs. Know that there are three main kinds of rocks and some firms have specific needs when it comes to the kind of rock they need for the business they own. Anyway, to provide you an adequate idea about what are these types are and their characteristic, you may read that below.

Sedimentary rocks are those which has been formed from particles found on sand, pebbles, shell and other fragment material there is. If you combine all these particles together, they are referred to as the sediment. However, to develop these kinds of materials, there needs to be a long period of time needed.

But even after years of its formation, sometimes it is not even enough to make it as hard compared to other forms. Out of the three main types of this formation, sedimentary is by far the weakest. You can present it in a slight pressure and it will then be crushed down to pieces exposing all the particles which has harden within it.

But, amongst the three, this specific type are known to be only one which possesses fossils in it. You could see that once it all breaks down and you can see what its really made up of. Some of the most common type of these rock formation would be the limestone and the one which is named conglomerate.

Then next are metamorphic which are often formed right at the lower surfaces of the earth. It develops through a phase called metamorphoses and is changing due to the heat and pressure they have been exposed to underneath. This makes them shiny in appearance like a crystal or minerals.

They do develop in a long time as well but as they do, they normally would grow bigger. These could be considered as the most alive kinds of rock formation. Anyway, this can be pretty useful in many ways but is expensive because its precious. Common types of this one are marble and also the rock gneiss.

Then you have the igneous kinds of rock which are formed out of magma. Magma is a molten rock deep down within the earth surface. As it hardens and cools down, it becomes this kind. There are few times that the magma are to cool down just inside the earth surface but often times they could erupt out of the surface.

Normally, you could only see them below the surface but occasionally they can go out in a form of a lava. But for that to happen, it normally involves a volcanic eruption. Although, they are not crystal in form, they are usually glasslike as it cools down. There you would also notice holes from the gas bubbles. Basalt as well as obsidian are some of its kind.
