What Are The Types Of Commonly Used Fire Nozzles

By Walter Fisher

There is a strong responsibility every firefighters have to go through especially during emergencies. They are expected to save lives of those distressed citizens under some circumstances and it is not that easy to deal with. Anyway, one way for them to make sure they get to what they intend of doing is by having the appropriate equipment at hand such as quality fire hose nozzle.

For common people who has no idea how the system is working on the hose to its nozzle, it sometimes is hard to actually understand its importance. But, one thing is for sure, it really is necessary which is why every firefighter would agree they need nozzle which is way more advanced on it capability and functionality.

Choosing one is not just looking exactly at how much circumference there is in the nozzle for the water to come out. You should be very careful with the entire system itself and how much pressure it would give out. You would have to make sure that it will be enough with your needs and requirement.

But knowing how there are so many brands and capabilities presented, you probably are going to have a hard time choosing out of those endless list. Well, one thing you could probably do to make your life simpler is going for what you need and trying to figure out which kinds are suitable enough. Well, to provide some idea below are the top two commonly used nozzle types. You can try and assess this and may want to use it as well.

The first one is the smooth bore wherein its one of those few who have been invented quite a long time now. These kind of nozzles are particularly capable of producing greatest reach even though it uses the lowest engine pump to pressure the water out of the hose. No wonder, most American would prefer using this one.

This has an obvious pattern when drawing out of fluid which is great in reaching areas with fire. That pattern would stay still and compact until the pressure begins to rise and be enough for the needs in putting it out. But then, there may be drawback that comes along with this because it somehow is hard to adjust once the patterns has set in. There will be a need to break that so it absorbs heat.

Then you have the automatic flow and stream types of nozzles which has impressively made its name on top as it is now being used by several fighters in the service. The amazing thing about this is that, it has an internal spring mechanism which allows pre setting at the factory and will provide the constant pressure for the gpm.

But then, there may be some slight problem with the stability of this pressure. Often times, because it can be a little low, the steam is not sufficient which may affect the gpm or the areas which are reached by the water out of the hose. It can also shut down without any indications at all and it can pretty much affect the operation real big time.

These are just few of those nozzle types you could get across with, if you wish to know more about it, you could probably inquire some manufacturer. This way its easier to narrow down which ones are the best. This also is to give you the option wider and merely based on your needs.
