101 Uses Of Water Absorbing Beads

By Marissa Velazquez

Known to swell to hundred times their original sizes, water absorbing beads have gained popularity particularly in decoration. They are known by several names which includes Orbeez, water crystals or peals and gel beads. These beads are made of polymer crystals that have great absorbing properties. With this property, this polymer is used in the area of decoration and manufacture of disposable diapers.

They are available in different colors from different manufactures in your local stores. You can also order them from online stores and this gives you more options to choose from. All you need is a trusted supplier with a well established brand as this is the first assurance of quality. They look small and dry when in store shelves.

Once the maximum size is reached, the extra wetness is strained by the use of a strainer. When carefully handle, they can last for months, as long as care is taken to avoid hitting them on hard surface as they can break. Water evaporates from them making them reduce in size, in order to increase their size you need to put them in water container again. If the idea is to reduce their size, they are dried and strained backed to their original size and then bagged for later use.

Once at their full size, these crystals can retain this size for months although evaporation will eventually reduce them to former size. They are very durable but care must be taken to avoid hitting them on hard surfaces as this can make them to break. After use, they can be dried through evaporation and strained using a trainer which returns them to their original size. At this point, it will be possible to bag them ready for other uses later on.

The crystals come in several unique colors and shapes ranging from cubes, cuboids, pyramids, diamonds, star shape, heart-shape among many others. They can be available from some of the local stores or online shops which allow wider variety to choose from. Ordering online make it easy to locate and take advantage of discounts available in addition to free delivery offered.

In manufacturing of disposable baby diapers, polymers are actually referred to as super absorbent. They produce lighter and thinner diapers. In sewerage and water treatment plants, it is used for trapping and suspending solid particles to make them easier to remove. It is also used in ore processing, soil conditioning, paper and textile plants and in the manufacture of dyes, adhesives, and a number of fabrics like permanent press among many other uses.

They make good coolants on a hot day. You just need to wrap a few of these crystals on a bandana, let them soak and swell and then cool them in a freezer for fifteen minutes and you have a great chill. They are sewn to a pouch in some cloths. When soaked for a few hours, they will swell up. This forms a moist evaporative cooling cloth that works well for bicyclists, motorcyclists and construction workers.

Although the uses of water absorbing beads are endless, a creative use as air freshener is quickly gaining popularity. Some essential oils are added into absorbing media before adding beads in. The effect is a freshly and greatly smelling air with an astonishing surrounding.
