Making Good Use Of Architectural Salvage Dallas Doors

By Marissa Velazquez

Talking of an architectural salvage Dallas homeowners refer to them as antique materials removed from old homes and building that are facing demolition. If you have a vintage home and you probably want to replace windows, doors and other elements, finding the right part for replacement can be quite challenging. However you can use salvage parts to match the design and style of your old home. The materials that have been salvaged can be used to enhance various types of exterior and interior decoration. Take for example a reclaimed door, following the below steps you can make a great garden potting bench.

To start with, buy a reclaimed door from a local store. Though any passage door would work, for a great project you need a more detailed reclaimed door. You should make sure that the entire door is solid wood.

With this, build a wood frame of 3 inches on wood side and the width of the door. The three-inch side will be made the depth of the potting table. One should modify it to his desired size giving more consideration to the size of working area you intend to make.

The next thing is to fix the frame, using screws, to the height you want your worktable have. Stand the door to get the impression of the worktable height. After that you need to mark the height and then screw the frame into place. To give it a good support, use two rows of screws fitted 6 inches apart from each other.

A measurement should be taken with the door standing upright leaning against a wall from the table top frame to the bottom of the door. Cut two wood pieces each 2 by 4 inches to make the front legs of the potting bench. The legs should be screwed the bench frame at the front corners. They should be fixed with a set of two screws on the sides and two others in front of the legs.

After fixing the legs, you should stand the potting bench to see if the legs can support its weight. One can cut pieces of wood measuring 1 by 6 inches to fix on the depth of the table though you should ensure the pieces reach the front and back of the table frame. It is also important to ensure no space is left between these wood pieces for an attractive and neat look.

Paint the bench and it is ready for use. You can do some finishing to increase the aesthetic value of your bench. You can also improve it by adding more shelves and hooks for hanging garden tools and other things that you might consider fit to hang them there.

Beside such projects, architectural salvage Dallas materials have been used in the improvement of modern homes. This is a good way of making good use of construction materials from old homes and buildings that are faced with demolition. Using these materials will help you save on cost.
