Money Saving Tips For College Students

By Franklin Skribbit

College is PRICY!! (Unless you live in Europe, but we'll not go there.) In good ol' America students pay tens of thousands of dollars for tuition, textbooks, supplies, rent, food, entertainment, and the list goes on. Unfortunately, too many students are falling deeply into debt. They are getting in big, big trouble. Even more unfortunate is the fact that most of that do-do could be easily avoided. It's given that college kids out on their own for the first time are usually pretty stupid with their money. Don't be one of these people! Here are a few tips to enjoy a full college experience AND save money!

While the word "meditation" usually brings to mind the image of a monk sitting cross-legged in the forest, it is actually a very helpful way to help your mind deal with an increased workload.

It's important to understand that meditation simply refers to having a period of mental silence, or a time where you banish the effects of chronic stress from your mind.

Apart from academic scholarship, there are thousands of various scholarships or funds available for students of specific backgrounds, ethnicities, experiences, talents, goals, religions, etc. There is money out there for anyone willing to track them down. Life like a college student

Don't rent super nice condos when you can't afford it! You are a poor college student. Live like one. Rent a crappy apartment with roommates and experience life down low. You won't believe how much fun you can have learning to conquer leaky faucets, cramped living quarters, and pots that have lost their handles. It allows you to be creative, learn to solve problems, find alternate forms of entertainment. Crummy apartments encourage you to go outdoors, be active, and get away from the TV or computer screen.

Student discounts

There are so many privileges associated with being a college student. You can use the school's free gym/sport facilities. Rent free movies from the university library and watch them on their big screens/projectors. Check out the school's museum, concerts, and plays. Use your student discount to get cheaper bus passes, cheaper movie tickets, and cheaper groceries. Many businesses offer student discounts. Take advantage of them!

As productive as we are, human beings were never meant to be cooped up in buildings and offices all the time. While there is a great deal of learning to be done while taking classes, make sure you don't underestimate the positive effects of taking a short walk outside. Being exposed to fresh air and other natural elements can work wonders for your motivation and help relax you.

Plan

Borrow and Rent

Instead of buying brand new, very expensive textbooks, see if you can borrow them from friends who took the class before you, check them out from the library (especially books for lit classes), buy them used online, etc. There are plenty of alternative ways to get the books and supplies you need. You will be investing a lot in pursuit of any degree, be it a nursing degree, a business degree, or an arts degree. Save money by living smart, and avoid the downward spiral of unnecessary student loans.
