Care Packages Should Be Easy

By Stephanie Luckey

Your child just graduated from High School. When you take stock of your emotions you realize that your happiness is also joined by a feeling of longing. They are going off to college in a few months and you only have very little time left with them before they leave the nest. Although they wont be relying on you as much for day to day dealings, they will still need you to help them grow, and keep them safe. Although they may be leaving your house with set rules, there are a number of ways to keep your child safe and sound. They will need your guidance more than ever for the following reasons.

They will be meeting a large amount of people in a short amount of time. College dorm rooms are a melting pot of many different personalities in a small space. They will not get along with some of these personalities, and may have a difficult time deciding who is worth their time. Most students will be desperate for friends the first few months of college and thus some bad seeds may attach themselves to your child. It's good to know who they are talking to and getting to know the best so you can help if drama emerges.

They will be around alcohol and drugs. Even if your child is "perfect" they WILL be around this and it is important to know the basics rules of alcohol consumption.

The opposite sex will show interest in them in a way they have never experienced. They will thus be subject to tough situations they are not used to.

School work will be a plenty. You child will have finals, papers, reading, and more stress than they have ever know. They will have social stress and school stress. This can weigh heavily on a person. They will be looking to you for guidance on how to cope and manage it all.

Your child will need you more that ever and for more than one reason. College is a stressful journey and they will need your guidance.

Whilst giving them space and freedom make sure they know you are always there for them. They will be taking you up on the offer!

Cheers and goodluck!

Steph
