Ideas For Better Fire Security

By Mark Mahaffey

Have you purchased a business fire alarm for your building? If so, you may have some questions regarding the best place to put it. First of all, if you have only purchased one, consider buying more. It is important to have as many as possible in order to keep you and your workers safe.

Having several fire alarms will increase the odds that you will survive a fire if one breaks out while you are in the building. Putting it near the ceiling is smart, because heat and smoke tend to drift upwards near the ceiling. Having an alarm in this space will help to detect the smoke and heat quickly.

Put alarms outside of every office door, inside offices, in the kitchen, in your conference room and in your parking garage. Be sure to put fresh batteries in your alarm very six months. If you live in the part of the country which has a time change in the fall and spring, consider using those times as reminders to change your batteries.

Testing your alarm is very smart. You should do this every few months so that you can rest assured that they are working well. The way to do this is to push the test button located on the alarm.

Do you work in a school system? If so, then you should enhance your business fire alarm system by installing sprinklers in the building. The alarms will alert you that a fire has broken out, but a sprinkler system may decrease the intensity of the fire itself, which is crucial for keeping people as safe as possible when a fire emergency occurs.

If the size of the fire is hot huge when the sprinkler system is triggered, then the water that comes from them may be sufficient to keep the fire small enough until the fire department arrives. Make sure that the system you purchase is equipped to actually make the sprinklers come on when the fire alarm sounds. The sooner you can get the water started, the better.
