Countless Ideas For Email Newsletters That Increase Sales

By Mitali Deypurkaystha

E-commerce website owners all know how imperative email and marketing is when it comes to increasing sales. But most business men and women find it hard writing interesting emails for their email marketing campaign. They understand that regular contact with their subscribers is important, but they worry that their emails are too sales orientated and will ultimately annoy their subscribers.

In previous articles I have taught you how to write subject lines that get emails opened and how to write email openers that virtually force your subscribers to read through your entire email. Today I am going to teach you how to create the 'body' content of your emails. This is the bulk of the email content and it is the final part of the jigsaw when it comes to the success of your email follow up messages.

There are three key items needed in the content of your emails.

1) People buy from people, not businesses. Your reader needs to build a relationship with you and trust you

2) Teach your reader Your reader has goals and ambitions and they are on a journey to fulfilling these by opting into your email list. If you teach your readers how to get closer to these goals they are motivated to buy your products or services

3) Your email must sell your products. Make no bones about it building an email list of subscribers isn't much use if you don't offer them anything to buy. You must sell to them but not in such a blatant way that they feel aggressively marketed to.

The following step-by-step plan will help you to write emails that are informative,, educational and allow your readers to build trust in you......whilst also advertising your products.

STEP ONE Go to http://www.google.com/alerts and set up an alert for your niche, industry or topic. What will happen is Google will email you once a day with the latest news in your niche. For example if you owned a men's fashion web site you might set up an 'alert' for the keyword 'men's fashion' or even 'celebrity fashion'.

STEP TWO Read through your alerts (all the news stories will be compressed into one email for that 24 hour period). Which ones could be related to your readers ambitions and fears?

For example: An e-commerce site selling men's clothes could look at alerts regarding articles of male stars and what they have worn recently to parties, promotional tours etc.

STEP THREE Write a short synopsis for one of these news items

STEP FOUR Educate the subscriber about what is good and bad about the news story. What the person or company is doing right or wrong. Help them to understand how to experience the same success or avoid the same mistakes as in the news story. Align the story with your subscribers dreams, wants and fears. Make it relevant to them and the journey that they are going on with you.

For example, sticking with the men's fashion web site... 'The ripped, faded jeans Brad Pitt wore at the film premier really looked great with his white shirt and dark shoes combo. Brad's been voted the sexiest man alive numerous times and has to look the part. He certainly did with this simple but stylish outfit'.

STEP FIVE This is the important part. Link the news item to your products and business. You should select items from your products list that are similar to the news item and therefore giving your reader the desired result.

Example: We can't promise you a glittering film career and Angelina Jolie for your wife, But you can copy Brad's look. Take a look at this leather jacket www.productlink.com and also these skinny jeans www.productlink.com.'

STEP SIX Close The Loop. So your email doesn't seem too sales orientated don't end the email with a link to buy your products. End with a one or two sentence close that wraps up the email and makes it seem educational rather than promotional.

Example: We can't promise you Mr Pitt's lifestyle and career, but with very little work you can recreate his fantastic sense of style. See you next issue! The Men's Trends Brigade.'

Using Google Alerts to deliver news items to you is one way of generating content for your email marketing campaign. You should also take note to the time of year; for example writing about Christmas and promoting seasonal goods. Also, use yourself by writing about your own personal thoughts and ideas....remember, people buy from you, not your business!
