Business Fire Alarm Tips

By Mark Mahaffey

As the owner of your business, you are no stranger to the importance of making sure the condition of your business fire alarm is excellent. At any moment, a fire could break out in your business. There are many reasons why this might happen.

For example, the wiring inside your air conditioning and heating systems could go bad and cause a fire. Water heaters are another potential place for a fire to start; it could over heat. If you have a kitchen area in your office, the stove or microwave could cause a fire, if an unattended pan is left on the stove or if the microwave malfunctions.

It goes without saying that the time to think about protecting yourself from a fire is before the fire starts. If you wait to consider putting in a business fire alarm system until after a fire has broken out, it is too late. This is especially true if in the process of a fire, you lose merchandise and if people who work for you are harmed.

The time is now, then, to prepare for a fire emergency and think about what you need in your business fire alarm system. Smoke and heat detectors are the first places to start. These devices can warn you quite early if a fire is beginning to smolder some place in your building.

Another smart thing to do is to install a fire sprinkler system in your office. It is true that fire and heat detectors are very useful, however, they can only tell you that a fire is in progress. They cannot do anything to halt the fire. But if you have a sprinkler system, it can begin to spray water on the fire. In some cases, this can possibly slow the fire down enough that it does less damage.

Emergency security lighting is also a smart part of a business fire alarm system. Emergency lighting can help you find your way out of a dark building if the regular lighting fails during a fire emergency.
