Healthy Air Tips Offered By Stuart FL Air Conditioning & Heating Service

By Donna Beley

When an individual hears the phrase air pollution, he may think of the smog that hangs over a city. However, the air inside a home or office is often more polluted than what is found over the city. With help from a Stuart air conditioning & heating service, locals can keep the air in their home cleaner.

Start with the floors. Carpets as well as other types of flooring trap chemicals and allergens tracked into the home. Unfortunately, most vacuums just stir up the pollution. Choose a unit that offers a HEPA filter to trap these chemicals inside the vacuum. Be sure you clean the corners, edges and walls. Upholstery can also serve as a trap.

Humidity should be held in the 30 to 50 percent range. This decreases the chances of mold or dust mite growth. During the summer, in humid areas, it may be necessary to add a dehumidifier to the room. Vent basements to keep moisture levels under control. Turn on vent fans when you cook or bathe to ensure the moisture you create is removed from the house.

If you smoke, stop. At the very least move outside when you light up. Second hand smoke is full of pollutants, including carcinogens. Free programs are available to help individual who have not been successful at stopping smoking.

Have the house tested for radon. It is an odorless, colorless, radioactive gas. Radon increases the chances of developing lung cancer. Granite counter tops have been linked to elevated radon content in homes. Testing can make you aware of a problem so you can take steps to provide a solution.

Change HVAC filters regularly. Balance the need for better filtration with energy efficiency. The filter protects mechanical equipment and traps many sources of indoor pollution. Under dusty conditions change filters monthly. At the very least all filters require replacement every three months. Have the unit serviced and examined for potential carbon monoxide leaks annually.
