Is The Bbb A Scam Or Not

By Gwen Lowe

The Better Business Bureau is a very well known site that would list down all of the big companies in the United States of America and would give them a grade along with some comments about the company. Basically, they would tell people whether a certain company is a scam or not. However, the problem is that many are asking is the bbb a scam on its own simply because there are so many scandals in the site.

Now there have been reports that the website of the Better Business Bureau is actually ripping people off. Now in the year 2010, there was a huge scandal regarding the bbb when it came to giving out grades to companies. Basically, they were said to have sold grades to companies and only gave good grades to the companies who paid the membership fee that bureau was offering at that time.

Now before this incident happened, many people did see the BBB as a credible source wherein they could see whether a company is worth associating with or not. Now if one does not know about the system, basically the Bureau sells companies a certain membership for a fee. Now that fee will actually vary per company depending on how big and how famous it is.

The ABC News channel was the one who did the report or story on the Better Business Bureau after discovering some facts. Now to the eyes of a lot of people, this is actually an organization that is tied up with the government in monitoring companies and their activities. In truth, it is actually a non profit organization that just asks for membership fees.

Now The thing about this organization is that the investigators found something really fishy with the membership program. The companies that did not sign up for a membership would not get high grades and comments on the site. One example would be the Google company which received a grade of D from the website.

Now there are even instances wherein the business owner had to pay a small amount so that his grade would go up. There were in fact a few business owners who had the grades of their companies go up simply because they signed up for the membership. Because of this, the site has been under suspicion from the people.

Now their credibility rating went even lower when it was exposed that they gave businesses that were considered scams really good ratings. Because of the number of complaints received from the authorities and readers alike, they had no choice but to shut down the branch that took part in that activity. Two years after the scandal, they finally shut down the branch that did the activity.

Now if one would monitor all of these events that had happened in 2010, one would really be skeptical about this organization. Even if they are still up and running today, much of their credibility hash been lost. Their excuse is that only one branch has been doing that and the other branches were not aware of the activities of that branch.
