Tips For Unconventional And Best Sci Fi Books

By Marylou Forbes

It is only natural for readers and writers to try the science fiction genre. It is all because of the fact that in science fiction, almost anything goes. You can do anything to the story, for the writers. You can read almost any plot twist, for the readers. It is really interesting to delve yourself in science fictions or fantasy stories.

However, there should be benefits in breaking the rules. Instead of following the normal conventions for your stories, you might want to break the rules a bit so that you can tell a fascinating story. Here are some of those normal rules in the best sci fi books that you should try to break when you are writing this story.

If you are writing, there is the option for you of taking out the third party omniscient. You can just go ahead with the story without having to divulge what your characters are thinking about. Since the minds of these characters are not open for your readers to read, you can easily make a world where anything can happen.

Avoid infodumps. This basically says that you should stop dumping on the readers a boat load of backstories and even technical schematics. If you push these information down the throat of your readers, they will definitely put down your book and look for another one they can read.

Having one book should become the norm once again. Instead of the popular trilogies and chronicle types of books, a writer should take it as a challenge to improve his or her writing skills and aim to have just one book. If you have one book, then you can definitely aim for a better market since you do not have to entice them to buy the sequel.

The plot should be created without having to rely on portals. This basically means that the protagonist should not always be in situations where he suddenly falls into a portal, he suddently finds an open pathway leading to a new world, or other similar situations. There are enough of that going around in the bookstores these days.

You might also want to do away with light travels and space travels. You can do better with your science fictions when you go ahead with other plots aside from delvig into quantum physics where you can turn back time or where you can jump from one time period to another. You can stop using time machines for this.

Magic is a very common element with fantasy and science fiction genres. If you can, you should make sure to avoid using the said element to the story you are making. You should write the science fictions or the fantasy stories without having to rely heavily on the magic or power of legendary people to make your world go round.

Using present tense should be encouraged these days. Most writers do not really want to use present tense because they think it is too disconcerting. However, you can actually take advantage of present tenses if you want to make the story more immediate. You can make your story work better if you use the present tense.
