SEO Knowledge You Can Use

By Katy Desilets

In the world of Internet marketing, search engine optimisation is a must if you want to flourish. SEO, which stands for search engine optimisation, is the cornerstone of Internet marketing, as well as the best way to get your website ranked within search engines. Bing, Google and Yahoo will exposure your website to loads of targeted traffic who can visit and buy from you. SEO isn't an easy road to travel. It may prove to be extremely hard if you do not know how to do it, truthfully. Here are some things that you need to know about SEO.

It is better to use keyword phrases than individual keywords. There is a possibility that you will over saturate your own content with a single word if you only concentrate on that one word. Over-saturation is harder for the readers to sort through and it is usually something that the search engine spiders do not like to see. When you use keyword phrases as opposed to a single keyword, search engines will rank you higher on their search lists as well as send you more targeted traffic. It is a bit harder to write content around a single keyword than it is to write around a keyword phrase. You can't write nonsense sentences, either, or readers will balk at your work and click the back button out of your site.

Resist the temptation to cram a bunch of keywords onto the base of the page. Sometimes people do that and then go a bit further and make the text white or a colour that blends into the background. Another trick people resort to is cramming keywords underneath image files. Avoid both of these practices. This is disingenuous at best, and will not be looked upon kindly by the major search engine providers. Any philosophy that first describes itself as "too good to be true" probably is, so make sure to do some thorough vetting of the idea before you ever even think about implementing it on your page. Instead, breathe in good practices. Stay as far away from scams as you can get.

One keyword at a time is what you want to focus on optimising. Focus on a single keyword phrase for each page or post on your site. People who try to overload their content with too many keyword phrases end up producing gobble-dee-gook. The whole point is that people can and want to read your text. If you end up with something else, what was the point? Trying to spam your posts with all keyword phrases will make the content low in quality, making visitors less likely to click on them. Spiders are good, but readers are better. As a matter of fact, your site rankings turn on readers.

There are so many different search engine optimisation tricks to remember that you shouldn't even try to remember them all. One of the best things to do is to gain an understanding of the basics, and go from there. A constantly changing Internet promoting method, SEO is challenging. No matter what you think you know about SEO, it could change completely tomorrow! As long as you don't get too frustrated with the process of learning, you should be on your way. You may even start to use SEO without even knowing it once you get started! It will just become natural to do these things when you start your internet marketing campaign.
