Avoid major email promotions around holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most people will be busy celebrating and will not check their emails until they go back to work. There are some exceptions. For example, if you're having a holiday sale, especially a Black Friday sale, you might want to send an email over the holiday.

An effective way to create an email marketing list is to give users an option to sign up for your mailing list on your website. This function can be included on your website so that interested customers can receive updates, as they become available.

Having a visible link where the person can unsubscribe is a bright idea. Do not forget to provide a link to unsubscribe and make sure it is obvious. You want the subscribers to feel like they are in control of the process, and nothing is being forced onto them.
